Hide your visit

The SAFE Place Merseyside website now gives you an 'Exit this website' option as a quick way of hiding your visit. This page tells you about this, and also how to remove your browsing history so the sites you have visited are no longer saved on your computer.

Hiding your visit

To hide your current visit, simply click on the “Exit this website” button on the right hand side of every page.

Clicking on this button will take you to the Google search engine homepage. Please note that this will only hide your current visit from the screen and there will still be a record of your visit in your web browser.

How can you hide your browsing history?

If you are accessing our website from a shared computer you may not want other users to see that you have accessed our website. To hide your visit please see the following instructions below.

Internet Explorer

Go to Tools -> Internet Options
Under Browsing history, click on the 'Delete' button
Select the options to be deleted (it is recommended to select the Temporary Internet files and website files, Cookies and website data, History and Form data options)
Click on 'Delete' to delete your web browsing history

Mozilla Firefox

Go to Options -> Privacy
Under History, click on 'clear your recent history'
Select the options to be deleted (it is recommended to select the Browsing & Download History, Form & Search history, Cookies and Cache options)
Click on 'Clear Now' to delete your web browsing history

Google Chrome

Go to the Customise and control Google Chrome area (indicated by three horizontal lines in the top right of the browser window)
Select More tools -> Clear browsing data...
Select the options to be deleted (it is recommended to select the Browsing history, Download history, Cookies and other site and plugin data and Cached images and files options)
Click on 'Clear browsing data' to delete your web browsing history

Use Private browsing to access websites discreetly

When you are browsing a website and would prefer your visit to be private and untraceable on the computer, use private browsing mode. All modern web browsers offer the private browsing feature, to ensure your web activity stay private. In the Google Chrome browser for instance, private browsing is termed as Incognito mode.

Browsing privately in your browser would not require you to carry out the instructions above as your browsing history is not stored on the computer in the first place.
